Lucid Motors App

Apps are becoming a very important source of information and control

for electric vehicle drivers. Electric vehicles have significantly different characteristics than conventional vehicles.

Most notably: their fuel source (electricity), new units of energy and power (kw/h), shorter driving range, longer refueling times, and new refueling locations (home, work, parking lots). This is why driver integration with mobile apps will become increasingly important as a source of information and control.

COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CAR AND OWNER

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Create direct communication between car and owner

Main features that the owner needs:

  • Check charging progress in real-time and start or stop charging

  • Schedule the temperature of your vehicle before driving

  • Set the destination of driving before sitting in your vehicle

  • Lock and unlock from afar

Do electric vehicle owners need a mobile app?

Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (PH&EV) Research Center recently found that  EV drivers go through a lifestyle learning process to explore and adapt to those vehicle differences over time. The study concluded that mobile information technology could accelerate the lifestyle learning process and affect customer perceptions and behavior. Furthermore, EV drivers are particularly well suited for mobile apps due to the high adoption rate of smartphones.

REFLECTION

Challenges I faced.

Get to know the company that you are designing for. One of the primary challenges of the semester was to build up a deep understanding of the forms, style, and persona of the Lucid brand in order to apply it to a Lucid App. I wasn’t only designing the app but also constructing a logical argument for its purpose and functionality.

What I'd do differently next time.

Don't skip steps. Start with thorough research into the competitors, customers, and similar products on the market. Only then, move to the ideation and design phase.
